Fish Springs Wild Horses - Protecting Our Heritage

We focus on community education regarding our program and collaboration with the BLM, along with other agencies and organizations dedicated to maintaining the wild horses in their native habitat.

We serve as a mediator when wild horses visit residents who prefer that these majestic animals stay off their property.

Our organization hosts local meetings and events aimed at raising awareness and financial support for the efforts to ensure the population, health, and safety of the Pine Nut Mountain horses, all part of our wild horse advocacy initiatives.  

H I S T O R Y  

In 2013, Gardnerville residents rallied to oppose a BLM proposal that aimed to remove the wild horses residing in the Fish Springs area of the Pine Nut Mountains Herd Area. The BLM conducted a series of public meetings regarding the management of the Fish Springs wild horses, where hundreds of local residents expressed their strong support for keeping the wild horses in and around Fish Springs and firmly opposed the BLM’s removal proposal. This prompted the formation of Pine Nut Wild Horse Advocates, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization established by our community to work with the BLM in the humane management of wild horses in the Fish Springs area. Consequently, in 2014, the BLM Sierra Front Field Office launched the 'Fish Springs Wild Horses PZP Pilot Project.' PNWHA is proud to partner with the BLM to humanely manage this small herd of wild horses.
